How do you find a research topic?
Here is a good, basic formula for getting started with your research in ENGL 268.
- Begin by using the Concept Mapping worksheet (attached below) to help you brainstorm about your topic. Use the Quick Search to help you identify keywords and related terms, and narrow your topic.
- Next, from the main library page, click on Research Databases to find scholarly articles and books. The Library has dozens of databases. Use the subtopics and keywords from your concept map to help you expand your search.
- Save your citations! Copy and paste by finding the CITE button at the article level in the database, or use the EMAIL button to send yourself a copy of the PDF with the citation.
- Find a full-text copy of the article or book! Look through the article record for a PDF or HTML link and download it to a location where you can find it again. You can also search Google Scholar or make a request through Prospector/ILL.
- You may also wish to use Google or Google Scholar. Take advantage of Google's advanced search features!
