Evaluating Sources

Once you find a resource you want to use, you'll need to evaluate its quality. Specifically, you'll want to determine if the resource is authoritative and credible.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself to help assess the resource:

  • What is the purpose of this document? And who was it intended for?
  • Who is the author? What are their qualifications?
  • Who published the resource? And do they reap any benefits from the arguments laid out?
  • Was the information researched? What was the methodology?
  • When was the work published?
  • Is there objectivity or bias in the paper?
