We Build Community Together

Kim Nguyen for OBI x Fine Acts

The Know Your Community Book Kit Program invites

Fort Lewis College staff and faculty

to come together through the power of shared reading. These kits spark meaningful conversations about the ideas, values, and experiences that shape how we live, work, and grow together.

Hosted by Reed Library, our book club kits are available for checkout by any faculty or staff group year-round. Each spring, we introduce two new titles that reflect timely themes—this year’s focus is on curious conversations: how we ask questions, listen deeply, and connect across differences.

What’s in a Book Kit?

Each Know Your Community book club kit includes:

  • 📚 Up to 8 print copies of the selected title

  • 📱 Links to a digital (ebook) version

  • 🧭 A guide to support meaningful, curiosity-driven group discussion

  • 💬 Book-specific conversation questions designed to spark connection

  • 🙋‍♀️ Optional support from Reed Library staff to help form or facilitate a group

Why Participate?

Book clubs aren’t just about reading—they’re about relationship-building. They offer a space to explore complex topics with honesty and care. Whether you’re part of a department, committee, or informal circle of colleagues, your group can use a book club kit to:

  • Strengthen trust and understanding across roles and backgrounds

  • Practice curiosity and perspective-taking in real-world conversations

  • Deepen your sense of connection—to your work, your team, and the FLC community

This year’s selections explore how we make sense of difference, how we communicate across divides, and how we build bridges—together.

Whether you're looking to build a new community or strengthen an existing team, these kits are here to support conversations that matter.
