Check Details

After adding or importing citations/documents, it is extremely important that you review and edit the details (title, author, etc.) for your entries. This will insure your Works Cited pages and Bibliographies are generated correctly. Be sure the Type (Journal Article, Book Section, etc.) is correct for the document or citation you are adding or importing.

Drag and drop PDFs

Add citations to your Mendeley library by dragging and dropping a PDF into the reference manager library window. You can also drag multiple PDFs into your library at the same time. Mendeley will automatically extract the descriptive information (i.e. Title, Author, etc.) from the PDF(s) and create a library entry.

What is the Mendeley Web Importer?

Import citations from the web directly to your Mendeley library with the Web Importer. The Web Importer is a bookmark that you can install in your toolbar to easily save citations that you find online. If you use the Chrome Browser, install the Mendeley Web Importer browser extension. If you use Firefox, simply drag "Save to Mendeley" to your 'Bookmarks' or 'Favorites' bar.  The browser extension detects article identifiers on the page you are viewing and automatically retrieves the details and PDF full texts (where available) for you to add to your library. Mendeley Web Importer is currently supported for Chrome and Firefox:

Why is sync useful?

Your Mendeley library automatically syncs, backing up any changes you make to the cloud. You can be confident that your library is always up to date whenever or however you want to access it and that your work will always be saved.

Syncing

How does sync work?

The reference manager is automatically synced whenever you are online so you can access it on any device. Hover your cursor over the sync icon to see when the last sync occurred and select the icon to perform a manual sync.

Where's all my data?

Your data is safely stored in the cloud. Mendeley will never publish private or personally identifiable data. No one will ever know what you are currently researching or reading, unless you explicitly decide to share this data with other researchers.
