Create Account

To get started, create a free account. If you already have an account you can sign into Mendeley using the 'Sign in' button that appears in the top right corner of the page.

After you register for an account and sign in, to get the most out of Mendeley, you'll want to:

  1. Set up the Web Importer browser extension.
  2. Download the Mendeley Cite plugin.

What is Mendeley Web Importer?

The Mendeley Web Importer is an extension for web browsers which helps you to add references to your library enabling you to easily build your library of references as you search online. Access full-text research with one click where available.

Available for Chrome and Firefox.

What is Mendeley Cite?

Mendeley's citation plugin allows you to quickly and easily cite materials in-text that you’ve added to your Mendeley library - as well as generating a full bibliography and change citation styles in just a few clicks with Mendeley Cite.

  • A free, simple plugin for Microsoft Word (Windows, Mac) or Libre Office (All platforms)

  • Pick from a growing library of citation styles

Ensure your word processor is closed before attempting to install the plugin. Mendeley Cite is compatible with Microsoft Office 365, Word Online, Microsoft Word versions 2016 and above and with the Microsoft Word app for iPad®.

What is Mendeley Reference Manager?

Mendeley Reference Manager is a free desktop reference management application. It is installed on your desktop and will sync with Mendeley.com, the web application. You can switch seamlessly between desktop and web versions of the reference manager for convenient access to your research on any computer.

Mendeley.com users can try Mendeley Reference Manager’s desktop app worry-free – both applications can be installed on your computer at the same time. Here’s how:

  1. Sync your existing library in Mendeley.com
  2. Download and install Mendeley Reference Manager
  3. Open the new reference manager, and sign in using your existing Mendeley credentials
