APA 7th edition: Print Sources

Below are examples of citations as they may appear in a references page. The examples are meant to be illustrative and do not encompass every possible situation. If you have questions about citing particular types of sources or dealing with particular situations, you should consult the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association located at the Research and Info Desk in Reed Library or contact a librarian, in person or via chat.

For capitalization:

  • Titles of periodicals (newspapers, journals, magazines) are capitalized as they appear in publication
  • Book titles and article titles have only the first word of the title (and of any subtitles), as well as proper nouns, capitalized.
  • Use single spaces between all words/items within each citation.

The APA Publication Manual does not specifically discuss images from a book, so this format is an adaption of the audiovisual ("Photographs", p 347) and edited book chapters and entries ("Chapter in an edited book, reprinted from another book", p 327) reference types.
